Snoop Dogg faced heavy criticism after making controversial comments about queer representation in movies.
The 53-year-old rapper caused outrage when he admitted he felt uneasy about watching Disney’s film Lightyear with his grandson after seeing same-sex characters on screen.
Speaking on the podcast It’s Giving, Snoop said he was surprised when the animated character Alisha Hawthorne appeared with her wife and child.
The actor recalled how his grandson asked him about it during the film. “They’re like, ‘She had a baby with another woman.’ Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, ‘Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!’”
Snoop admitted he did not know how to respond and told listeners the moment “threw him for a loop.”
He added, “I just came to watch the movie, I didn’t come in for this. They just said she and she had a baby, they’re both women. How does she have a baby?” He went on to say the scene left him confused and scared to return to the cinema, questioning if such themes should be shown to children.
Fans reacted strongly online, with many accusing him of being out of touch. One wrote, “Snoop being the biggest disappointment ever was not on my bingo card.” Another said, “God forbid kids see representation and parents have to actually talk to them about it.”
A third user commented, “It’s because people of his generation refuse to educate themselves. They are too lazy to learn and then fail to guide the children they claim to be raising.”
Some fans even expressed regret over supporting him in the past, with one posting, “Wow. I am so embarrassed that I ever liked him.”
