UPDATE: 8/20/25, 3:00 p.m. ET: The wait is over! Dawson’s Creek fans are finally getting an in-person reunion next month after James Van Der Beek teased on social media that something was in the works.
OG stars Van Der Beek, Michelle Williams, Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson are teaming up with F Cancer for a charity event in New York City on Monday, September 22, according to an official press release.
Their former castmates Mary Beth Peil, John Wesley Shipp, Mary-Margaret Humes, Nina Repeta, Kerr Smith, Meredith Monroe and Busy Philipps will all be part of the event, which includes a live reading of the show’s pilot to benefit the charity and Van Der Beek, who is currently battling stage 3 colorectal cancer.
“We grew up in Capeside and that’s a bond that will last a lifetime,” Williams said in a statement, referring to the iconic location of the WB series. “We wanted to gather around our dear friend James and remind him that we are all here. We always have been and we always will be. And I know the fans of Dawson’s Creek feel the same way.”
The show’s creator Kevin Williamson will be on hand to celebrate the reunion, which will be directed by Jason Moore.
“I am so excited to reunite with James, Michelle, Katie, Joshua, and our Dawson’s Creek family for such a special night. Dawson’s Creek changed my life,” Williamson said in a statement. “What began as a personal story about a young man and his friends navigating their way through the challenges of life became so much more than I ever dreamed.”
He noted, “It created an enduring fandom and legacy all over the world. I am so honored to be a part of it and to support our beautiful friend, James, as we continue to navigate our way through life and its many challenges.”
Tickets for the one-night only event go on sale on Friday, August 22, at 1 p.m. ET at Broadway Direct.

James Van Der Beek hinted at a Dawson’s Creek reunion in a cryptic social media message, and fans don’t want to wait another minute for more details.
“If we were truly meant to be, then we’ll find a way back to each other,” the post read via Van Der Beek’s Instagram on Wednesday, August 20, quoting a line from the iconic WB series.
The only other details listed are a date and city: September 22, 2025, in New York City.
The social media clip included a throwback Polaroid of Dawson’s Creek’s four main characters, Dawson Leery (Van Der Beek), Joey Potter (Katie Holmes), Pacey Witter (Joshua Jackson) and Jen Lindley (Michelle Williams).
The show’s theme song, “I Don’t Want to Wait” by Paula Cole played in the background, sending longtime fans into a tailspin at what could be happening.
“WAIT WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??” one user asked in the comments section.
Another fan replied, “You guys are going to kill us with this teaser. My GenX heart is fragile in my late 40s 😫😍.”
A third user wrote in the comments section, “Hold up WHAAAAAAAAAT ❤️😮.”
Van Der Beek, 48, didn’t give any more context into his social media tease, but his former costar Busy Philipps added fuel to the reunion fire on Wednesday.
Philipps, 46, who played Audrey Liddell during the show’s college years, posted the same throwback Polaroid of the OG stars with the same quote via her own Instagram post. She didn’t share any other details but did tag Van Der Beek, Jackson, 47, and Holmes, 46. Williams, who is Philipps’ longtime BFF, doesn’t have a social media account.
“I just gasped! What does it mean?! 🥲🩵,” a fan wrote in the comments section. A separate user replied, “Honestly, I feel like we have earned this.”
Mary-Margaret Humes, who played Dawson’s mom, Gale Leery, and Nina Repeta, who portrayed Bessie Potter, also shared the cryptic message with their social media followers.
Dawson’s Creek ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2003, following Dawson and his childhood best friend Joey — who famously snuck into his window well into their teen years — as they navigated growing up and falling in love. A love triangle between Dawson, Joey and their friend Pacey made it an even more iconic ‘90s coming-of-age show that fans are still talking about.
Earlier this year, there was an uptick in Dawson’s Creek fandom after Van Der Beek confirmed that he recently reconnected with his costars after going their separate ways for some time.
“I’ve gotten in touch with them recently and it’s just been so nice,” the actor said during a March episode of the “Whine Down” podcast. “It’s just been so great to talk to them and catch up with, like, who they are now this many years out and to have that shared experience from back in the day. It’s just so lovely every time I get to catch up with one of them.”
The following month, Williams, 44, gave fans a little more insight into her friendship with Van Der Beek, revealing that she is “absolutely” in touch with him after the actor and father-of-six revealed his stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis in 2024.
“We’re in contact, and he’s in our hearts and our minds, and he knows that,” the actress told Entertainment Tonight in April. “And we’re here for him in every and all ways.”
In July, Jackson and Holmes sent fans into another frenzy when they were photographed filming a new project together in New York City. It was later revealed that the pair are working on a trilogy of movies called Happy Hours — and yes, they will be love interests.
“Everybody loves Dawson’s Creek and I love it too,” Philipps exclusively told Us Weekly later that month, noting that she also saw Jackson earlier that summer. “I’m happy that people are happy that we’re all hanging out.”
Philipps previously told Us that a reunion has been on their minds for a while. “We’re really trying to figure something out, but there are a couple of people who have some work things that cannot be moved,” she said in March. “It’s like playing chess, trying to get everybody’s schedules to align. I’m very hopeful that at some point we will.”
